Do you need a canine behavior consultant? Or a dog trainer? What's the difference?
A dog trainer usually teaches people to train their dogs to perform commands like sit, come, or stay. Dog trainers may also teach tricks, agility, police work, etc.
A canine behavior consultant assesses a dog’s personality, environment and history to understand and modify unwanted behavior. Behavior consultants work to identify and treat the root cause of the behavior--kind of like a therapist for dogs. People should hire a behavior consultant if their dog is aggressive, fearful, anxious, over-excited, shut down, needs manners, is nervous, out of control or displays similar unwanted behavior.
